What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is the different ways a person’s brain processes information. It is estimated that 1 in 7 people in the UK have some kind of neuro difference.

“I have always felt different to others and I never knew why. Now I have a better understanding of myself and can manage myself more productively.”

Being neurodiverse does not correlate with low intelligence, many people with neuro differences are highly intelligent and creative.

Here are the most common types of neurodiversity:

  • Autism (ASD)

  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

  • Dyscalculia

  • Dyslexia

  • Dyspraxia

Many clients come to counselling, unaware that some of the difficulties they are experiencing are due to being neurodivergent. Some of these issues include unhealthy relationships, addictions, eating disorders or disordered eating, lack of motivation and anxiety/depression.
